Mirae (미래) (未來) is a Korean word meaning “future.” The name stuck to my design practice
as a sort of mantra, a word that evoked my desire to encourage a deeper and more meaningful relationship to the items that we wear.
In 2019, Brooklyn NY, I began creating clothing, hats, and bags crafted from custom textiles.
At the time, I was working as a tailor at a denim shop doing alterations and repairs. Every day, I would encounter well-loved clothes, mending and returning them to their owners. This work taught me how a piece of clothing can be made more beautiful and intrinsically valuable through human touch. I continue to explore this concept in both my personal projects and my work for clients by designing with hand drawn and hand sewn elements, constructing one of one pieces with upcycled and deadstock fabrics, and working with fine artists in their studios to translate their artwork into wearable items.
